The path I’ve built alongside my camera.
I am a community psychologist, documentary filmmaker, and educator working at the intersection of media, mental health, and community empowerment. My practice has developed across the Caribbean borderlands, Costa Rica’s cultural institutions, Miami’s nonprofit ecosystem, and London’s immigrant-rights sector.
I hold an MSc in Media and Communications from Brunel University London, where I received the Peter Caws Prize for Best Postgraduate Dissertation and the Vice Chancellor’s Excellence Award. I also hold a BSc in Psychology from the University of Costa Rica, where I conducted academic research with the LAUDI institute.
For over a decade, I’ve taught filmmaking, social sciences and nonprofit management skills in diverse settings. I’ve been part of university symposiums and lectures, capacity building workshops, and community art spaces, creating environments where learners examine power, representation, and collaboration through both critical theory and hands-on experience.
My career has always bridged research and practice: conducting academic studies through documentary film, working alongside communities in nonprofit settings, and collaborating with artistic and cultural institutions across Latin America, the Caribbean, and the UK.
As a filmmaker, I explore cultural memory, migration, environmental justice, and psychological resilience through the arts. I’m currently developing Community Filmmaking as Liberation Psychology, a framework that blends art, research, and participatory practice to support healing, expand collective imagination, and initiate discussions that aim at social transformation.
My main areas of work:
-
The camera was the first tool I put in service of social change. I quickly learned of the power of advocacy when groups of people make their voices heard.
These untold stories have the power to challenge perceptions, inspire action and gain support from the public. This work is intended to build bridges of understanding and transform viewer’s insights on the themes and subjects explored.
-
Guided by Martin-Baro’s principles of Liberation Psychology, I design programs that build groups’ self determination by promoting spaces for expression where they can actively build their stories.
I believe that this approach weaves into the fabric of community life to create resilient and sustainable outcomes.
-
My approach is characterized by being both creative and strategic. I always seek an innovative and scientific response to communities’ needs along with cohesive impact measurement portfolios.
By balancing innovation and practicality, I ensure that each program I develop reaches its goals and builds a strong sense of community.
Let’s make something great
I’m always looking for opportunities to collaborate and bring together the power of community, art, and innovation. Let’s get in touch to create a new project together and build towards the world we want to live in.
