Documentary

Bajo el Sol de la Guaria

A community that remains resilient in the face of monoculture expansion.

The documentary is set within the context of pineapple cultivation, the most prominent monoculture in Costa Rica over the last two decades. The film follows various farming families, providing insights into their lives and traditional means of production.

Commissioned by the research program Kioskos Socioambientales at the University of Costa Rica, the documentary was presented during the "Fiesta del Maíz," an annual gastronomic event in the community aimed at raising funds for the local school. During the event, we conducted a mask-making workshop for the community's children and hosted a cumbia concert by the band Sonidero Barrio Fatima.

Celebrating traditional agriculture practices.
